Toby's Towing Blog: Advice and Information

Hey! My name is Toby, this is my blog. Have you ever considered what you would do if your car broke down on the side of the road? I hadn't given this much thought until it actually happened. I was driving into Sydney on the highway when my car started to make a very strange sound. Then the vehicle began to shake. Next, the engine cut out and I found myself stranded at the side of the road. Thankfully, my dad had signed me up with a towing service. I called them and they came right out and helped to recover my car.

What to Consider Before Buying a Camper Trailer

by Tracy Fox

If you are looking for an economical way to take family vacations or go roadtripping with your friends, you may have considered buying a camper trailer to tow with your vehicle. These attachments make a great option if you are looking to have a home away from home while you are on the road. Trailer towing also gives you much more flexibility when it comes to exploring the countryside as you can always be assured of having accommodation. Nevertheless, selecting a camper trailer is not about choosing one based entirely on your budget. This article highlights two key things to bear in mind when buying a camper trailer.

Consider the measurements and weight of the trailer

Before you can purchase your camper trailer, you need to know what available measurements and weights are available to you. The key to making the right decision is to first consider what tow vehicle you will be using in tandem with the trailer. If the camper trailer is too heavy, you will be applying to much pressure on your tow vehicle, and this can lead to auto problems.

On the other hand, a large camper trailer may be alluring, as it will provide you with sufficient floor space. Nonetheless, the bigger the trailer, the harder it will be to maneuver especially if you are an inexperienced motorist. Overall, it would be prudent to find a trailer that will be a good fit for both your needs as well as your tow vehicle's needs.

Consider the towing gear you would require

Some vehicles already come with a towing hitch in place. Therefore, it is not uncommon to find motorist assuming that this would be adequate when contemplating a camper trailer. The reality is that more often than not, you end up requiring additional towing gear to make it easier for you to control the trailer on the road. For instance, it would be necessary to consider investing in a brake control system. This would allow you to have enhanced control over the trailer.

Other accessories you may have to contemplate as part of your towing gear include sway bars, hitches for weight distribution and more. Note that if you do not consider additional towing gear beforehand, your trailer might not be of any use to you immediately. This may end up inconveniencing your plans if you had scheduled your road trip for immediately after purchasing the trailer.
